Cleaning & Preventive Care

Scheduling and regularly attending preventive cleanings is important for your dental health for two reasons: your dental hygienist can thoroughly remove hard and soft mineral deposits, known as plaque and calculus, with professional instruments from areas that are hard to reach with a toothbrush and floss alone and your dentist and dental hygienist have a chance to examine your oral health to create an individualized plan based on your needs.

During preventive cleanings, you can expect your dentist and dental hygienist to perform the following:

  • Evaluation of gum tissues
  • Oral cancer screening
  • Routine x-rays
  • Removal of plaque and calculus
  • Polishing
  • Oral Exam

Through these procedures, your dentist and dental hygienist will be able to evaluate the condition of past dental work, discuss new dental treatment that may be necessary, and provide education to maintain oral health at home.

Prevention is our goal. We want to prevent decay, gum disease, and other serious dental problems. Prevention and early intervention may help minimize your overall cost by giving us the opportunity to fix minor issues before they become major problems.
